Regions Of Serengeti


SHORT GRASS PLAINS (SOUTH)

*Grass dominates the part of the Ngorongoro conservation that borders Serengeti.
*There is two alkaline lakes in the south of the park, Lakes Masek and Ndutu, Known mainly for their population of lesser and greater flamingoes.
*The Ndutu area is known for its Cheetah sightings and the rear Wild dog sightings.
*On the Ngorongoro side off-road driving is allowed.
*Here you can have the real picture of the big predator interaction when the migration is around.

SERONERA

The center of the park.
*The area is famous for its Lion and Leopard sightings.
*Best part of the park to see Cheetah during the dry season.
*The Lion research here is the second longest wildlife research in the world after the Chimps in Gombe both in Tanzania amazing.

WESTERN

*The western corridor begins 3miles from the Seronera and passes over the Grumeti River and beyond to a central range of hills.
*Eighteen miles before Ndabaka gate is an extensive area of black cotton soil.
*which makes rainy season travel difficult.
*The Grumeti River is known for its huge crocodiles.

NORTH

*This part of the park has great game viewing year round.
*However from around mid-July to October, when the migration is generally in the area, the game viewing here is spectacular.
*Thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra gather along the Mara river to cross either to Kenya or South towards Serengeti.
*The area is one of the few places on the northern circuit to look for the rare Black Rhino.

 

 

What to Explore


NDUTU

  • Located on the southern tip of Serengeti, bordering the Ngorongoro conservation.
  • Over 8000 calves are born here every day in a space of two weeks during the calving season.
  • Off-road driving is allowed on the Ngorongoro area.
  • The area is great for photographers and big cheetah fans.

TO SEE

  • lion, cheetah, hyena, serval cat, caracal, elephants, and stripe hyena,

HABITAT

  • Alkaline lake, acacia woodland, grass plains and seasonal salt pans.

GOL MOUNTAIN

  • Offers great game viewing during the green season (December-April),
  • If you are lucky you might see the fastest animal going for its favorite food (Thomson gazelle)
  • Not crowded with safari vehicles,

TO SEE

  • lion, cheetah, ratel, hyena, and eland.

HABITATS

  • short grass plains, seasonal waters, and kopje
